Dr. King grew up in Camden, SC and earned his veterinary degree from the University of Georgia, followed by a post-doctoral internship at Virginia Tech and a residency in veterinary neurology and neurosurgery at UC Davis. Neurology came naturally to him, but it became a calling the first time he watched a paralyzed dog walk again after surgery. He practiced in Charleston, SC before settling in Savannah, and in 2015 founded what is now Live Oak Veterinary Specialists. Dr. King holds advanced certifications in veterinary neurosurgery, acupuncture, and pain management. He has also earned his MBA, and serves as Secretary of the Board of Directors for the Veterinary Specialty Practice Alliance (VSPA) - a group of independently owned veterinary specialty and emergency hospitals around the US and Canada. LOVS remains proudly independently owned, community-focused, and agile in ways corporate groups simply can't be. Dr. King is a passionate teacher and mentor who believes culture is the foundation of great medicine, not an afterthought. At home, he and his wife Jori keep life wonderfully busy with their two boys (Greyson and Sawyer), three dogs (Rooster, Archer, and Yeti), a cat named Mira, and three Silkie chickens (Luna, Pearl, and Rose). He recharges with fishing, clay shooting, hiking, and camping; and rarely misses a chance to cheer his boys on the from the sidelines.
